What's On Your Tanker #47 - The Old Fuel Truck Conversion

Going through some seminar photos from 15 years ago....here is Tanker 1 from the New Vineyard FD in Franklin County, Maine. The converted fuel truck had a 2,300-gallon tank and was nicely converted to dump and load water pretty efficiently from the rear given the era. Few of these style tankers remain in-service today, but much of the home-made design work certainly transitioned into some of the features used on modern-day water haulers. This Tanker 1 no longer hauls water, a newer "fire service" tanker does that work now.
Many rural FDs figured out how to convert old fuel delivery trucks into water haulers for fire suppression. Some were more efficient than others; some were more safe than others. This 2300-gal one could dump fast and reload fast.
