On August 30, more than forty participants gathered in Seymour, Connecticut for a two-hour training session focused on hauling water with tankers. This exercise marked the conclusion of our 16-hr Rural Water Supply Operations Seminar sponsored by DEMHS Region 2 and hosted by the Seymour Fire Department.
The drill involved seven tankers, three engines, and two fill sites to support a three-dump operation. The operation achieved a peak water flow of 1,000 gallons per minute during the final portion of the drill. The fill sites required tankers to complete a round trip of approximately 3.5 to 4 miles.
The training began with a rural hitch setup and transitioned to dump tank operations about twenty minutes into the session. Chief Chris Edwards and the Seymour Fire Department provided logistical support for the event, while Region 2 DEMHS sponsored the seminar. Instructors for the weekend included Mark Davis and Tim Legore.
