What's On Your Engine #21 - Leave Plenty of Stuff to Help Others

Nothing new here this week....just a friendly reminder regarding hose lays....primarily for the suburban and rural areas. We feel the best practice when laying out a bunch of supply hose is to leave some "stuff" at the start of the lay that will help other units that arrive complete the water supply set-up. This becomes really important when operating with mutual aid companies that carry different hose sizes and threads and...this also becomes really important when planning on executing a "rural hitch" with tankers. The yellow layout bag shown in this news story provides sufficient adaptors for 2-1/2" fittings, 4-inch Storz fittings, and 5-inch Storz fittings. Combined with some other small appliances and of course the double-clappered siamese on the 5-inch supply line, this rural pumper's layout cache pretty much guarantees the next arriving engine or tanker can complete the connection and send the water down the line.
Leave "stuff" that helps others get you water!
1500 feet is a bit of a walk to go get an adaptor. Set up your rig so no one has to make that walk.
