Large Diameter Hose and Relay Pumping Operations - Wheatland County, AB

This past weekend had us back in Canada again with Wheatland County Fire Services. This time we delivered our 8-hr LDH/Relay Pumping Seminar on Saturday followed by our 8-hr Fire Ground Water Supply Officer Seminar on Sunday. With a landmass of over 1700 square miles and a population of around 8700, the delivery of water for fire protection is very critical to this huge, rural community. The LDH seminar had crews using a municipal fire hydrant to supply an attack pumper that had already laid out several hundred feet of 5-inch (125mm) LDH. A number of different rural rigs were used as the hydrant supply pumper; each crew got to figure out how best to use their rig given the hose and equipment carried on the rig. Unexpectedly (but it made it more interesting), one of the fire hydrant's 2-1/2" (65mm) outlets was out of service...so folks had to adapt and overcome...as they say.
It was a great afternoon of beautiful weather and working through numerous LDH water supply scenarios. Many thanks to Wheatland County Fire Services for having us back for another round of training. Between July's program and our August programs the Wheatland folks are well on their way to upping their rural water supply game!

Figuring out how to best supply LDH when your rig does not carry LDH. It worked out okay.
