Congratulations to the folks at the South Salem Fire District in Westchester County, New York on completing another dry fire hydrant installation. In January 2013, we completed a comprehensive water supply study/ assessment for the fire district. Since then, the fire district and fire department have worked hard to make improvements to their fire protection water supplies; they developed a plan and tried to follow it as resources come available.

Over the years they shared their successes with us; this time a new dry fire hydrant in a pond. Using 8-inch Schedule 80 PVC pipe and fittings, and a standard 6-inch suction head and strainer, the new dry fire hydrant was installed with the help of some folks running a pair of tracked excavators. The pipe went about 20-feet out into the pond where it was secured to a precast concrete anchor block. The flow test was "chilly" but confirmed everything worked as designed!

Many thanks to Commissioner Michael J. Lombardi for providing us the photos and information about this project. Commissioner Lombardi alone with others in the FD and District have championed this program since the beginning and it is nice to learn of the progress being made.

Kudos to everyone at South Salem for their continued work on these important projects!
