On May 2nd, units from Shelby County's First Battalion and surrounding departments participated in a 2-hr water supply drill where the First Battalion Tanker Task Force operated to provide water supply at a simulated emergency event. The drill culminated our 16-hr Rural Water Supply Operations Seminar that was sponsored by Shelby County EMA and the Alabama Fire College. The program was well-attended by folks from around the area with more than 40 participants for the weekend.

Day 1 of the seminar started some classroom work on the basics of hauling water with tankers. From there, about 8-hrs were then spent on practicing fill site and dump site operations. The program ended with the 2-hr drill on Sunday afternoon. A peak flow of 1100 gpm was achieved using 5 tankers and one engine to haul water.

Many thanks to the Calera FD for hosting the program. Instructors for the weekend were Mark Davis and Tim Legore.

Units: Calera E23 (1500 gpm), Dry Valley E51 (1500 gpm), Brierfield E202 (1500 gpm), Brierfield E203 (1000 gpm), Brierfield Tanker 206 (2500 gal), Summer Hill Tanker 280 (2500 gal), County 17 E212 (1000 gpm), County 17 Tanker 213 (2100 gal), Montevallo E81 (1500 gpm), Four Mile Tanker 263 (2000 gal), and Pea Ridge Tanker 101 (1800 gal).
