Fill Site Operations #05 - Another Use for a Step Ladder

During our 2009 travels to Seneca County, New York we learned of another use for a 6-ft step ladder. The two-person crew on Ovid FD's Engine 1141 was assigned to set up and operate a tanker fill site during our 2-hr water supply drill. The crew obviously was well-versed at such an operation and knew how to make the one-person suction hose hook-up easier. Engine 1141 is also a rescue engine so it carried a small step ladder that one of the firefighter's used to help support the suction hose while the driver positioned the rig. The ladder then just became a support to help keep pressure off of the dry fire hydrant/suction hose connection. Kudos for creativity that worked!
The step-ladder provides no argument about how to attach the hose, or where to park the firetruck, or who should win the ball game. A nice silent...but effective partner!
