| Quite often during our rural water supply operations seminars we encounter pumpers without a high-flow discharge. Most of these pumpers are "older" and of smaller capacity (1,250 gpm or less). One problem that arises when trying to pump LDH is the lack of a high-flow discharge while trying to flow more that 50% capacity of the fire pump. Some times these older pumpers carry 4 or 5-inch LDH...and sometimes, they carry an adaptor right on one of the 2-1/2-inch discharges. In most instances, the LDH coming off that single, 2-1/2-inch discharge probably works just fine...since most fire incidents require flows less than 50% pump capacity. However, when trying to pump high flows without a high-flow discharge, the pump operator needs to get that LDH on the street and supply it using some type of siamese of manifold using at least two, 2-1/2-inch (3 are preferred) discharg |
