The Kendall County (TX) Road and Bridge Department operates several large water tenders that are used for hauling water to various job sites around Kendall County. Located just north of San Antonio, Kendall County is at the start of "hill country" and the threat of wildfire is quite prominent. Coupled with the explosion in housing and commerical structure growth, the need for fire protection water is serious. In cooperation with the County's Office of Emergency Management, the Road and Bridge Department has outfitted several of their tenders with dump valves so that the tenders can help haul water in a water shuttle operation.

We had a chance to work with these folks and their tenders at our rural water supply seminar last August in Boerne. The tenders worked great! This type of cooperation is a great example of local government interoperability and the sharing of resources.
