Hauling Water - Island Style

The folks from the Prudence Island VFD hosted our 16-hr Rural Water Supply Operation Seminar last weekend and got a chance to haul some water on their quaint little island located in Narragansett Bay (Rhode Island). Prudence Island is about a 25-minute ferry ride from Bristol, RI - which of course means any type of mutual aid response is delayed. The PIVFD operates two engines, three tankers, a brush truck, a water supply unit, and an ambulance and they have to be pretty self-sufficient during those early phases of operations.

Most of the weekend was spent practicing various water supply and tanker operation skills. On Sunday, the seminar culminated with the traditional "tanker shuttle" drill. Instructors for the weekend were Mark Davis and Alan Butsch. Many thanks to the folks from the PIVFD for the great hospitality and hard work!
