Flow Measurement 01# - Hose Monster

Those folks who follow our water supply drill summary postings know that we like to measure the flow achievements of the drill. While there are a number of ways to manage that task, we like to use a flow diffuser device called a Hose Monster. Besides delivering training programs across the country, we also do hydrant flow testing and fire pump testing. We first came across the Hose Monster product while preparing for a hydrant flow testing job in a "landscape disturbance" sensitive area. We bought one and it worked out just great. We now own several and we can accurately measure flows from as low as 118 gpm up to 2900 gpm. The two features that we like the most about the Hose Monsters are the fixed-oriface pressure measurement feature (no more handheld pitot tube and wet feet) and the diffuser effect.

While we certainly do not market or advertise anyone's product but our own, we do try and endorse products that we find to be very useful in the area of water supply operations. While not inexpensive, we have certainly gotten our money's worth out of all the Hose Monsters that we own.
