Tanker Operations #04 - What's On The Back of Your Tanker? |

The rear of your tanker tells us something about your water hauling operation. When you see preconnected hose and large direct fill lines and other appliances all ready for use - you get the sense that the rig is ready to not only haul water to a fire but also go and get another load - in a quick fashion. A couple of years ago we came across Yorktown Heights Tanker 14 at a drill in South Salem, New York (Westchester County) and it was apparent that the tanker is ready to support a number of fill site operations. In addition to the pre-connected "short-shot" of 5-inch LDH w/hydrant valve, the tanker also carries a Turbo Draft that can be left at a fill site when needed to assist an engine company accessing a static water source. The nice thing about the layout of Tanker 14's back step is that no one has to go and dig through a compartment to get the hose or the valve or the Turbo Draft - those items are readily available - and it is all about speed and efficiency at the fill site! |
