Tanker Operations #04 - What's On The Back of Your Tanker?

The rear of your tanker tells us something about your water hauling operation. When you see preconnected hose and large direct fill lines and other appliances all ready for use - you get the sense that the rig is ready to not only haul water to a fire but also go and get another load - in a quick fashion. A couple of years ago we came across Yorktown Heights Tanker 14 at a drill in South Salem, New York (Westchester County) and it was apparent that the tanker is ready to support a number of fill site operations. In addition to the pre-connected "short-shot" of 5-inch LDH w/hydrant valve, the tanker also carries a Turbo Draft that can be left at a fill site when needed to assist an engine company accessing a static water source.

The nice thing about the layout of Tanker 14's back step is that no one has to go and dig through a compartment to get the hose or the valve or the Turbo Draft - those items are readily available - and it is all about speed and efficiency at the fill site!
