The folks in the northern end of Newcastle County, Delaware spent Sunday afternoon, September 10th hauling water in Hockessin. The 2-hour water supply drill was the culmination of our 16-hr Rural Water Supply Operations Seminar sponsored and hosted by the Talleyville Fire Company. Units and crews from Newcastle County, Delaware and Chester County, Pennsylvania participated in the tanker shuttle exercise. The 4.3-mile loop proved quite a challenge for the rigs hauling water. Once flow was started at the 5-minute mark, flow was never interrupted - it was very close a couple of times - but water flow never stopped. A peak flow of 1,100 gpm was reached during the second half of the drill. Instructors for the weekend were Mark Davis and Alan Barnes. A couplets summary will be posted in a couple of weeks. Many thanks to the Talleyville and Hockessin Fire Companies for the excellent logistical support - including some home cooked lunches! We were also able to place the 52nd brick in the NFFF Walk-of-honor due to the success of our t-shirt raffle at this seminar!
